A Million Blue Pages Reflection
Some parts of this book were extremely difficult to get through. To be 100% honest, I still have not finished it. Making the nodes for the A Million Blue Pages project definitely helped me through what I have read so far. Thinking of how to turn certain parts of the book into a node made me really stop and think about what was actually happening within all the different story lines. Making my objects also made me more aware of the book as an object itself. I was able to understand how the book was forcing me to interact with it as an object.
I also found the big picture to be extremely interesting to me. It was a different type of experience to be able to make an object that represented how I was interpreting the book. Being able to then see how other students in other classes were interpreting the same page that I was working with was a great part of the project.
I used a program to create GIFs using pictures I had taken. I found the GIFs somewhat simple to make when I followed the tutorial posted on the class web page. I think that using GIFs would be an interesting way to show the changes that exhibits go through. It would also be an interesting way to show the different changes that can happen to particular items within an exhibit. Posting them to tumblr was also an interesting way to share our objects. Using a social media site would be an easier way to share the information contained in an exhibit with a wider audience.
I found many things to be interesting about this project. I really enjoyed being able to see the different ways other students in the class were interpreting the book. This also helped me to better interpret what I was reading. I also really enjoyed tearing the book apart and remaking the pages into different pages to represent the content of the book. I thought this was an interesting as well as successful. I really enjoyed the book somebody made using the cover of House of Leaves and added the spiral staircase to the center. This object helped me to better understand the content I was reading as well as how the book interacted with me as the reader.
Overall, I enjoyed this project. I enjoyed having to think deeper about what I was reading. Having to be more mindful about what I was reading helped me to get through the difficult parts I was reading. I was able to better understand the story lines because of how much thought had to go into creating my individual objects. Also, being able to read the interpretations of other students helped to understand better.
