What do we think of when we think of Manga? Perhaps we think of some Japanese comics that are popular to the nerds of our local comic book stores, or maybe it is a enjoyable source of reading on your off time. Well it turns out that manga, at least the drawing style, has existed for centuries. The writing style itself has been around for about one hundred plus years(1). Manga mean whimsical images and it is a comic style sold in japan and it makes up 40% of its book sales. Manga is much different from comics in the United States due to the fact that many more groups of people besides children read them. This is an easy accomplishment because Manga covers a range of diverse topics and moods from a dark murder mystery manga such as Death Note, a sports manga such as Prince of Tennis, a fantasy action ninja manga such as Naruto, and a cute playful manga such as Lucky Star.
These books can also serve an format for serious topics like the book we are reading in class, Barefoot Gen. Manga can be accessed in stores or online and this helps people get into reading and it has a higher appeal to many people then books do.
