The Stupidity of Grammar in the English Language
Some people struggle with the basics of using the correct form of a word such as there, their, and they’re or even were, where or wear. I have even seen people use the entirely wrong word, replacing know with no or visa versa.
I can understand the difficulty of determining the correct form of a word to use, however, using a word that has a different definition absolutely baffles me. It is not that hard to know the difference between words. All it really takes to fix such a mistake is a dictionary or even the wonderful invention called auto correct which comes on every cell phone now days. It’s not that hard of a concept.
It is much like trying to teach a child new words, but years later they still don’t understand it. If a little kid can do it, why can’t some adults? The word no is one that we learn as small children, so how can someone possibly not know that the word no is not the same as the word know? It is really not that difficult considering one of those two words has an extra two letters in it. If you’ve learned the basics of reading and writing, you can realize that those two words do not look the same and never have.
Though it really irks me, I can more easily forgive a mistake such as defiantly and definitely because those two words at least look similar. Though its easier to make such a mistake, it does still annoy me, it shouldn’t be that difficult.
I am not saying that it is acceptable to make simple mistakes like that, only that its easier to make these mistakes because word or auto correct might not catch the problem, since usually it is the wrong word with correct spelling.
When I see any type of grammar mistake it begins to annoy me, and the more I find, the harder it is to focus on the message of the post or text until all there is left, is the mistake and the rest becomes insignificant.
