YABA Yet another bloody acronym
This is my first time ever reading blogs, along with writing one. Please bear with me, I’m sure I’m going to muck it up.
When it comes to the English language I’m able to tune a lot of mistakes out. Or maybe I’m the one guilty of slaughtering the English language. It could have something to do with my grandparents being first generation Americans their parents coming from the Netherlands. Maybe it has something to do with living in the Florida for six years, which seemed to be a melting pot of people from so many different states and dialects.
The main thing that gets on my nerves lately I guess you can say is short hand and acronyms. When did people get so lazy that they feel the need to shorten every word and phrase that they can? There is a time and place for short hand/acronyms. I can understand in a text, and occasionally in online posts. However, if you type an email or write a letter to someone SPELL it out.
I hate seeing in an actual letter: ttys/ttyl, idk, np. Did you know that they now include numbers? Instead of TMI it can be 2MI or 2NTE.
I recently read a post where someone had typed wadafuq. Are you kidding me? I’m not sure which is worse wtf or wadafuq. Or how about @TEOFTD or BIF. I had to write back just to find out. It means ‘At the end of the day’ and ‘Before I forget’ just in case you were wondering.
I used to think it was something new with a younger generation. Granted I don’t feel that 34 is that old, but technology and culture is changing a lot. Then low and behold I received a Christmas card with a great aunt saying Merry Xmas.
It especially annoys me when a business does it. Would you feel comfortable doing business with a company called EZ fundings home loan or ASAP Divorce? EZ is how I would have expected my daughter to spell it in kindergarten.
Thank God that there are websites for text message and online chat abbreviations, so I will be able to decipher my emails, texts, and now reading blogs.
I’m sure now that I have gone back to school and taking English classes again I will begin notice all those other bad habits
Ta Ta for now or TTFN
