Cursing, swearing, profanity, whatever you call it. ITS FUCKING GREAT. Since the beginning of time it’s been considered inappropriate, offensive and even rude to use this type of language. I always viewed profanity as just adding a few extra fun words to your sentence. When I was growing up I didn’t always quite understand the concept of profanity. I’m from a village of only 2,000 people made up of drunks and hicks, so every other word that was said was “fuck” “shit” or “damn-it-all”.
My earliest memory of hearing extreme amounts of profanity was when my father would go outside to mow the lawn and do yard work. He would always get pissed off regardless of what he was doing. From the inside of the house I would always hear “YOU CAN TAKE YOUR PIECE OF SHIT MOWER AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR FUCKING ASS!” “FUCKING JOHN DEER!” Sometimes he even went to the extremes of cursing the wind for fucking up his day. It was pretty hilarious and my mother constantly shamed me for snickering at his behavior, but it was just too funny to ignore.
Being around it, I never really saw cursing as “inappropriate” and frankly, I think it’s quite necessary at times. Seriously, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that I have the mouth of a sailor or that I needed a “filter”. In high school, I was voted dirtiest mind and biggest potty mouth senior year in the yearbook. Which my parents weren’t too happy about. At times, my family thought it was hilarious too hear the things that came out of my mouth. Well pretty much everyone except my parents.
There are certain times and places that profanity shouldn’t be used, like around children and in the work place. But otherwise, it is completely okay to say whatever the fuck you want the way you want it. I can’t stand people that tell me that I’m too pretty to have such a filthy mouth, and to them I’d like to give them the middle finger along with a big FUCK YOU.
