In the American education system today, schools are constantly facing budget cuts and the painful decisions that arise because of them. Educators are stuck with schools cutting the allied arts including, music, band, art, home economics, and physical education. Many schools offer a half hour or forty five minutes of P.E. once or twice a week, while other schools have completely cut the P.E. program. This extreme is the exact opposite extreme of what Hitler had set up in Nazi Germany. The Hitler Youth boys experienced a day that was focused on P.E., rather than academics
The Hitler Youth was created mainly for two purposes, to create strong boys ready for fighting, and to instill the Nazi ideology in them . The P.E. programs that the Hitler Youth were required to participate in ranged from gymnastics to swimming and boxing. The Hitler Youth also faced fitness tests that would determine their grade in P.E. If there was a young boy that did not pass the fitness test he would could face expulsion and harsh ridicule by other youth . Because of such a high standard being put on the P.E. the actual academics of the Hitler Youth were put on the back burner. Hitler’s justification of the less intelligence and more fitness was stated in his book, Mein Kampf, “a less well-educated, but physically healthy individual with a sound, firm character, full of determination and willpower, is more valuable to the Volkish community than an intellectual weakling” .
