Anti-Semitism in the World
Anti-Semitism is not unique to Nazi Germany as we’ve learned throughout this semester. Anti-Semitism was also thriving right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. From class, we know that Anti-Semitism existed in plenty of other places in the pre-war age. However, it is important to note that Anti-Semitism did not stop with the Nazis. It kept going. A 1992 survey found that 20 percent of Americans held some Anti-Semitic views. This was a great decline from 29 percent from 1964.
If we were to take a trip to the Middle East, the story would be even worse for the Jews. Very few (less than 3%) of people from Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon had any sort of favor for Jews when a survey was given in 2011. Even Indonesia has a less than 10% favorability rating for Jews. It’s so bad that a lot of propaganda that is produced in these countries have many themes from Nazi propaganda against the Jews.
We have all heard of the Anti-Semitism that happened in Nazi Germany. And to be honest, this class is the first that I’ve heard of Anti-Semitism in other countries at the time. In the news, one can see that there is still Anti-Semitism in the world with all of the turmoil revolving around Israel. But one thing that I did not know about was just how bad it is today. One would think that the world going through an entire world war that was created by a man who wanted to purify the human race would be enough to lets thoughts of equality sink it. But it still happens. It’s human nature to hate.
Here is a modern Anti-Semitic poster depicting the Jews as the new Nazis against Gaza. Now, regardless of what stance someone my take on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this is still a good example of propaganda used against Jews.
