Today in class we were focusing a lot on Yod and how he wasn’t treated as if he had feelings or choices, but by what we have read it does seem that this cyborg makes his own choices. I wanted to address Yod and his “inability to understand the bonds of blood” because I feel like bonds of blood and “family” are something that a lot of people struggle with. If you are not connected with biological parents from birth I feel as though everyone goes through a stage where it’s hard to feel the blood connection, and connections through people are weird and flexible, not the same. “The cyborg was not born of woman nor impregnated by a man,” there are babies today that are created in test tubes and with impregnations that don’t have to do with a man and a women doing the do, women can get pregnant with their own stem cells today and there doesn’t need to be that connection to a person from a gene pool to create a family or, what Yod desires, a community. Yod needs beings like him that he can connect with and I think that’s how most people end up no matter how they were brought into existence. I believe that finding beings to identify with and create your community is what life and living is all about, you can have your community of parents and family that way but no matter how much I love my family and feel connected with them I still find my community within the people I have met that allow me to not only be who I am but also allow and encourage me to grow and feel connected to a place that I technically have no connections or roots. Yod needs a community and we all need that connection that comes with community that our families can’t always give us.
