Step 1: Download your pdf file. It should automatically open up in Adobe Acrobat.
Step 2: File>>Save As Other>>HTML Web Page
Step 3: If you double click the new file it should open up in a browser window.
HTML Web Page will make the text readable to the Text Analytics Tool of your choice.
>>Save the file to your desired location, like your Desktop. Give your file a name that easily identifies it because the Text analytic tool will use the file name as the “Title” of the work you’ve imported.
Make sure that the Format box is saving this it as an HTML file.
Step 4: Open Voyant Tools
Step 5: Select your visualization type. This will take you to a new page that looks like this:
Step 6: Click “Upload,” and “Add” the documents you’d like to use the text analytic tool with. There may be a limit to how many texts you use–so be thoughtful about what you are analyzing.
When you are finished uploading your HTML files click “Reveal.”
Step 7: To save your results click the floppy disk:
Step 8: Decide how you want to display your data from these available choices (I would recommend either the URL option or the “HTML Snippet to embed this tool and current data”, so that you can embed the window into your own webpage.)
It will look something like this if you embed the window:
To embed the window with all of your data saved, within WordPress, or your web page, switch your editor view to Text, and paste the embed code from Voyant into the window. You may need to adjust the code in the iframe so that your embedded window is smaller (where it says width=”x” and height=”x”) and change the pixels to the desired ratio.
